How does memory work?

From:www.eurotech-lcd.com    Date:2023-09-18

Memory is a memory component used to store programs and various data information. More generally, memory is a place used to store data. Memory can be divided into two categories: main memory (referred to as main memory or memory) and auxiliary memory (referred to as auxiliary memory or external memory). This article will provide you with detailed knowledge about the working principle of memory.

Memory Storage Unit

The storage medium that constitutes a memory is a storage unit, which can store a binary code. A storage unit is composed of thousands of storage units, and then a memory is composed of many storage units. A memory contains many storage units, and each storage unit can To store a byte (addressed by byte), the location of each storage unit has a number, that is, an address, generally expressed in hexadecimal.

The sum of the data that can be stored in all storage units in a memory is called its storage capacity. Assuming that the address code of a memory is composed of 20 binary numbers (i.e. 5 hexadecimal numbers), it can represent 2 to the 20th power, That is, there are 1M storage unit addresses, each storage unit stores one byte, then the storage capacity of the memory is 1MB.

How memory works

The working principle of memory is relatively complicated. Here I will briefly introduce it to you. The working method of main memory is to store or read various types of information according to the address of the storage unit, collectively called access memory. The carrier that collects storage units in main memory is called a storage body, each unit in the memory bank can store information represented by a string of binary codes, and the total number of bits of this information is called the word length of a memory unit.

There is a one-to-one correspondence between the address of a storage unit and the information stored in it. There is only one unit address, which is fixed, but the information stored in it can be replaced. The binary code indicating each unit is called an address code. When looking for a certain unit, you must first give its address code. The register that temporarily stores this address code is called the memory address register (MAR), which can store information taken out from the storage unit of the main memory or be prepared to be stored in a certain storage unit. information, a memory data register must also be set.
